Immigration costs: understand the quote

Before comparing amounts, compare what each quote includes. Ask who is doing the work, which tasks are included, what is excluded and which separate charges still need checking. Otherwise, two prices may describe very different services.

An amount needs a scope

A useful written quote should let you understand what you are agreeing to buy. Ask the provider to identify the work, responsible person, expected deliverables and the point at which the agreed work is complete. If a phrase such as “full support” is unclear, ask for the tasks behind it.

Keep three cost questions separate

  • What does this provider charge for the agreed work?
  • Are there official or third-party charges to check separately for my circumstances?
  • Which possible costs are still unknown, and who will confirm them?

Ask about extra work without assuming it is required

Where relevant, ask whether document review, translation, certification, appointment assistance or follow-up work is included. These are questions about a possible scope, not a list of requirements for every applicant. Do not pay for a task simply because it appears in a generic checklist.

Compare missing information, not sales language

Fictional example: Quote A says “immigration support” without listing tasks. Quote B lists tasks but leaves separate charges unclear. Neither description answers every cost question. Ask A to itemise the work and ask B to explain the unknown charges. This example contains no prices and does not rank providers.

Before accepting a quote

  • Which tasks and people does this amount cover?
  • What is excluded and could be billed separately?
  • When is payment due, and what written terms apply?
  • How are changes to scope agreed before more work starts?
  • What happens if I stop, circumstances change or a different task is needed?

About fees on this site

This guide provides cost questions, not a fee schedule or a personal quotation. It does not estimate official charges, legal fees or third-party prices. Obtain a current written scope and confirm the relevant charges with their responsible source.

Turn the answers into a decision

Write down which costs are confirmed, which are conditional and which remain unknown. If an important item is unresolved, ask for clarification before comparing the final amounts. Use the conversation guide to keep those questions short and specific.
